From the South. (Norwich) - click to view map locations
On reaching the outskirts of Norwich, follow directions to
A140 Cromer, which will take you on the ring road around the
west and north of Norwich.
Continue on the A140 (past Norwich International Airport,
through St Faiths, Hevingham, Hainford, Marsham) until you
reach the roundabout on the outskirts of Aylsham. Continue
on the A140, which is the third exit off the roundabout. After
driving for about 4 miles, there is a left hand turn sign posted
to 'Erpingham'. Ignore the first one and take the second left
hand turn to Erpingham. (The sign post is on the right hand
side of the A 140 and also has a sign for a camp/caravan site).
This narrow road leads into Erpingham. Go past the Spread Eagle
pub on your left and continue to Calthorpe. At the junction
in Calthorpe, continue straight ahead rather than turn right
on the Aldborough road. There is a national heritage sign to
Wolterton Park pointing the way you want to go. Continue past
Calthorpe Church on your left and just after the sign 'Jemco
Signs' on your left, there is a single track road to the right.
This is Common Road (you have almost made it!). The road has
a sign at the entrance,'Unsuitable for long vehicles'-
don't panic! Follow the road for nearly one mile and after
a sharp bend to the left, there will be a turning to the left
with a tiny disused chapel on the corner. Continue straight
ahead and you will find The Pink House on your right. Enter
the driveway by the second entrance (through a five barred
gate).
If you miss the turning to Erpingham off the A 140, do not
worry, just continue past Alby Crafts and the Alby Horseshoes
pub (both on your left) and take the left hand turn sign posted,
'By way to Aldborough'. This meanders through farm land for
about 2 1/2 miles. Continue straight past the signs to your
right to Aldborough School and to Aldborough village. The road
narrows and you pass Aldborough (St Mary's) Church (unusual
in this area for having a spire rather than a tower) on your
left. Soon after this, you will come to a cross roads. Take
the left hand turn. Beware the blind corner which creeps up
on you about 300 yards down the lane. Take a left turn immediately
after the first house you come to on the left (Corner House).
You will see The
Pink House just in front of you on the left about 200
yards down this narrow lane.
By Car…
From the West, (King's Lynn)
Take the A 148 out of King's Lynn towards Fakenham and Cromer.
On the outskirts of Fakenham, continue on the A 148 to Cromer
(do not go into Fakenham Town Centre!). Pass through Little
Snoring and on reaching Thursford, look out for right hand
turn to Melton Constable (B1354). Take this road through Melton
Constable and Briston to Saxthorpe. At the junction with the
B 1149 in Saxthorpe turn right and then immediately left (past
the petrol station). Continue along this road to the village
of Matlaske where you take a right turn (sign posted Wickmere
and Wolterton) in the centre immediately before the village
sign (on right) and opposite gates of a large estate. Drive
through open countryside for about one mile and take the first
left turn sign posted Hanworth and Aldborough. You can actually
see the Pink House in the distance to your right. Continue
for about one mile until you reach a house facing you. Turn
right at this house (sign posted Erpingham). Continue along
narrow road and you will find The
Pink House on your left (about 200 yards). Enter the
driveway by the first entrance (through a five barred gate).
